How To Choose A Memorial Site In Brisbane

If you have recently lost a loved one, it can be difficult to know how to choose a memorial site. Similarly, if you are making arrangements for your own memorial to relieve your family of any planning obligations, you may be unsure where to select as your final resting place. Memorial Gardens

Not many people are aware that there are multiple different types of cemeteries. For example, some cemeteries offer limited burial options, are exclusively mausoleums or do not allow ash scattering. If you or your loved one has always enjoyed being in nature and appreciates the outdoors, a memorial garden may be something you wish to consider.

At Eco Memorial Park, Memorial gardens are well-maintained and are usually open for friends and family members of the recently departed to walk in and enjoy. If you are close by and would love to visit and share special moments, we highly recommend discussing this before making a decision.

Family Memorial Gardens

When choosing a memorial site, its important to think about whether you or your loved one who is recently deceased would like to be laid to rest independently or with family members. Family Gardens are available for families, making them ideal for families or loved ones who wish to be celebrated and remembered together.

Cremation

If you are planning to be cremated or planning a cremation on behalf of a friend or family member, consider how you would like the ashes to be stored or scattered. Some people want their ashes to be spread in a memorable place. In Brisbane, you may scatter ashes on land or water and hold a small, private ceremony without a permit however, we do recommend checking with authorities prior to doing so.

If you are unsure where you wish for ashes to be spread, another option is to bury the ashes so they fertilise surrounding plants. Bio Urns are non-toxic and 100% biodegradable, for example, and can be used to grow a memory tree in your honour or view our other urns and keepsakes

Urns & Keepsakes

We also offer beautiful memorial urns if you prefer to keep your loved one with you in a safe place or somewhere in your home. Many families also choose to opt for keepsakes that hold a small portion of the ashes. This way your loved one can always be with you and/or loved ones.

Contemplate Distance

In addition to considering the memorial site, you must consider the location of the site. For example, if a loved one was born elsewhere but spent the majority of their adult life in Brisbane, you may be conflicted about where to select as their final resting place. Some people choose to think about the friends and family of a loved one (or yourself) and what location would be best for the majority of people to travel to.

Whereas, others believe it is of the deceased’s preference and where in the state they felt was most meaningful and like home to them or what they have planned for their eternity.
